Core Team (FLL Competition):
We currently have a team of parents and students that will compete in this year’s 2014 FLL World Class Challenge. We will field of a team of 10 4th and 5th graders this year. The season has started and we have a group of students and committed parent volunteers. We have a small number of spots on our team for new families to join. Spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.Any 4th grade students will be wait-listed for next years team.
We meet on Fridays, 4:30 pm, and Sundays 12:00pm-1:30pm from Sept 5th to approximately end of november or early december. Friday will be at Van Meter, and Sunday will be in a community center across the street from Van Meter. Time commitment is equivalent to a sport such as soccer or baseball.
Please email Peter Olcott, email@example.com for any questions related to joining, time commitments, or other comments. Please provide your child’s grade when requesting joining.
Expansion Team (After school program):
The expansion team is an after school program that is focused on preparing younger Van Meter children for the Core team, or just to have fun with lego and robots.
Our group also wishes to form an expansion team for later in this semester and next semester that is a non-competitive after school program that only meets once per week, Fridays 2:30pm. Time commitment is significantly less than the competition. We are recruiting a parent who has a 3rd grade child or 4th grade to lead the team. The parent leader will be mentored by our coaches. All supplies and materials will be provided by Lego Engineering. The Expansion team will consist of 10 3rd and 4th graders.
Come and give kids of Van Meter a great opportunity to learn about robotics, working in a team, and having fun! Please send email to (firstname.lastname@example.org) for interest in coaching this years expansion team.
